This week, May 4 to 8th, is Public Service Recognition Week (PSRW 2026). From the whole team at United Benefits, we wanted to say thank you to all government workers who serve our country!

Every year, the nation pauses to say thank you to the federal, state, county, local, and tribal employees who keep the country running. Public Service Recognition Week is a moment to acknowledge the people who protect our communities, safeguard our systems, and ensure government services reach the millions who rely on them.
And this year, the recognition feels especially important. Federal civil servants are navigating a uniquely challenging environment: DRPs, VERA/VSIP waves, hiring freezes, budget constraints, and shifting agency priorities. Through all of it, you continue to show up and serve with professionalism and resilience. That deserves to be honored.

Ways PSRW is Celebrated and How to Participate
While the week is almost over, celebrating our federal workers is an ongoing process here at United Benefits. With that being said, let’s review some of the events that took place this week.
Five Days of Action
The Partnership for Public Service hosted its annual Five Days of Action, a weeklong celebration highlighting the impact of public servants across the country. Each day focused on a different theme, from celebrating federal scientists to spotlighting community impact, offering feds an easy opportunity to participate and share your pride in public service.
Feds In Motion Challenge
You can still get involved with the 6th Annual Feds In Motion Challenge, running May 1 through June 6. This virtual and in‑person event encourages participants to move 37 miles in 37 days; a fun, healthy way to connect with colleagues and celebrate the federal community.
Share Your Story about Working in Your Agency
If you’re active on social media, consider sharing why you serve or highlighting a colleague who inspires you. Use the hashtag #PSRW2026 to join the national conversation and help shine a light on the people behind the mission.
Taking Advantage of Exclusive Perks for Federal Workers
Public Service Recognition Week also brings a variety of special offers and discounts as a small token of appreciation for your work. And if you’re too late to enjoy these specific discounts, there are also year-out deals that federal employees can take advantage of.
Special PSRW Offers
Some of this year’s perks include:
- 25% federal employee discount on entrées at RASA
- 10% off at Shaw’s Tavern in DC
- Free Washington Walks tours for federal employees
- Former Gov: free year of standard membership or 50% off premium membership
These offers are available for a limited time during PSRW 2026.
Year‑Round Deals for Feds
Federal employee discounts aren’t limited to this week. You can access year‑round savings on:
- Technology: Apple, Samsung, Microsoft
- Apparel: Reebok, New Balance
- Travel: United, Hilton, Enterprise
- And more!
These benefits can meaningfully reduce your cost of living throughout the year.
Honoring Your Service by Securing Your Financial Future
Public Service Recognition Week also provides an opportunity to reflect on your future and possibly start developing your federal retirement plan.
A Time for Reflection
You’ve dedicated years of service to your agency. This week is a reminder to make sure your career is setting you up for a confident retirement.
Mapping Out a Plan for an Unexpected Exit
With DRPs, RIF concerns, and agency‑level uncertainty, having a written retirement plan and budget is more important than ever. Understanding how your FERS pension, TSP, Social Security, FEHB, and FEGLI work together can help you make informed decisions during unpredictable times.
Protecting Your Hard Work
Inflation and rising healthcare costs can erode purchasing power over time. Building a retirement plan that accounts for these realities ensures the savings you’ve worked so hard to build will support you throughout retirement.
Thank You for Your Service!
To every public servant: thank you. Your dedication, professionalism, and commitment make a difference every single day, often in ways the public never sees.
If you’d like support reviewing your retirement budget, FEGLI coverage, or long‑term financial plan, United Benefits is here to help. You can request a complimentary consultation with a United Benefits representative to ensure your benefits and retirement strategy are working as hard as you do.
