If you’re planning to retire from federal service soon, the Government Retirement and Benefits (GRB) Platform is a great tool that may allow you to make changes and updates to your benefit and retirement selections.
The GRB Platform is also where you will go to find:
- Thrift Savings Plan
- Health insurance
- Life insurance
- Dental and vision insurance
- Social Security
- Pay and leave information
- And more
It also includes calculators, electronic forms, retirement courses, educational tools/videos, and, most importantly, it includes your electronic retirement application.
While the GRB Platform can seem intimidating, United Benefits has guided thousands of federal employees through the process, and we can walk you through it step-by-step.
It is important to note that OPM is currently asking for 90 days to process retirement applications; however, it may take even longer than that. Because of potential delays, it is best to submit your retirement application at least 60-90 days before retirement.
Once you have completed your electronic retirement application on the GRB Platform, the completed documents along with a case ID are emailed to you by a retirement counselor. A retirement counselor cannot be assigned until 60 days prior to your retirement date.
You will also need the following items on-hand to begin your retirement application:
- Your GS occupational series number
- Work address
- Marriage license or certificate, if applicable
- If you have ever been in the military, you will need your DD 214 form
- If you have ever filed a workers comp claim, you will need the claim number and the start and end dates of your claim
- Your banking information:
- Bank name
- Bank address
- Bank telephone number
- Bank’s routing number
